Leadership Team Development

Your Leadership Team is Your Greatest Asset

Your leadership team is the single most crucial resource in your organization for the simple reason that it sets the tone for everyone else.  What you do, you teach, and the most effective leadership teams take responsibility for this.  High functioning teams consistently embody the attitudes and practices that build over the long haul:

  • They demonstrate mutual trust and respect

  • They practice open and honest communication

  • They own the hard truths non-defensively

  • They proactively troubleshoot problems and self-correct as needed

The culture of your leadership team communicates your organization’s values far more effectively than any written statement ever could. What is your team’s culture saying?

My team development retreats usually involve 1 or 2 days of group work designed for your specific situation.  I will help you assess your team’s current culture and then create a workshop that addresses your challenge points, creates new awareness, and equips you as a team to do your best work together. Remember, your leadership team sets the bar for the rest of your organization — start setting it higher. Here are a few of the reasons leadership team development work might be good for you:

  • You seem to function well enough, but you sense there’s untapped potential within your group

  • Your team, or members of it, are new to each other and you want to establish a baseline for how you’ll work together

  • You have negative history you need to overcome and you want to reboot your team’s culture and practices

  • You want to establish common values, practices, and concepts that you’ll take to the rest of your organization since you know that a vital workplace culture begins with your leadership team.

Typical Components:

  • Confidential Interviews
The first task in team development is gaining a sense of what you’re working with: what are the obstacles, pressure points, opportunities, and strengths as your individual team members experience them? These will impact your team’s potential — whether you know what they are or not. (And wouldn’t you rather know?) I provide a confidential environment for team members to speak freely.

  • Customized Plan
I build each retreat from scratch based on the conversations I have with you and your team, your stated goals, and desired outcomes.

  • Workbook/Materials
I create all materials and provide them electronically for you to print.

  • Follow-up Report
I craft a follow-up report where I share my observations and provide a general sense of what the next steps might look like for you.

  • Continued Coaching (as desired)
Coaching after the fact can be an effective way to address specific challenge points revealed in the group session.

Lee guided us through a number of exercises and conversations that helped us break down barriers and establish a common foundation for working together. He helped us develop a set of shared commitments to which our team continues to refer. He also took the time to facilitate a discussion around areas where we could improve moving forward. He was prepared, encouraging, diplomatic, and direct…
